transitioning the other way, part 3

Here, again, with more sweaters and scarves. Are you getting a sense that the weather here in Colorado is screwy? I mean, really, I don’t think anyone ever REALLY puts away their snow boots or North Face jackets – they just simply hang behind the shorts and sundresses, still easily accessible should we get snow in June...

But anyways, here’s a cardigan and scarf over a tee, with jeans. Layers easily put on when it’s chilly, and then taken off again when it gets too warm.

transitioning the other way, part 2

This outfit was an attempt at dressing for warmer weather, but with the colder weather clothes that were still front-and-center in my closet. So, a ¾ sleeve striped shirt, light-weight green jacket, skinnies, and flats with strawberries on them.

I’m having a hard time wrapping my head around the fact that this outfit and the next couple are from back in May – feels like so many things have changed, yet so many have stayed the same…

- I’m now a redhead (of sorts)
- these jeans (and several others) are big on me since I’ve been running
- we lost our sweet Cali girl
- I got a promotion at work
- the Mr.’s work has continued to be a rollercoaster
- one best friend had a baby, and is now a mother
- another best friend moved to my city, and we see each other a lot more regularly than we have in a long time
- I got to see another best friend and her son, and friends, and family in Florida for the 4th of July
- I ran a 10k and another half marathon with my Dad (more to come on that soon)
- I gained more Instagram, Twitter & Bloglovin followers
- I deepened some existing friendships and relationships, and developed new ones
- I spent lots of time determining what makes me truly happy, and am trying to do/experience more of that
- I still curl my hair like this
- I still like to wear blue (makes my eyes POP!)
- I’m trying to adopt the idea of simplicity into many areas of my life, with the hope that it will spill over into everything

Needless to say, this past summer, and past year, has been a season of growth and change.
What about for you?

transitioning the other way, part 1

I’ve got 6 outfits from this past spring I never shared here. They’re “transitional” outfits (worn during icky rain-y spring weather), and by the time I would have posted them, we were well into the warmer days of June, so I decided to save them for fall. Because who wants to look at jeans&sweaters and tights&booties when it’s 90 degrees and sunny? Now that we’re slipping into 80 and 70 degree territory, I think it’s safe…

This first one is nothing special: jeans, v-neck, cardigan and sandals. But I remember being so excited to wear finally wear sandals! And not having to wear my cardigan the whole day! Here in Colorado, it feels like winter lasts from October to May (we got snow on Mother’s Day this past year), so breaking out sandals and shorts and light layers is such a treat.

Double-y Plaid

if this picture doesn't perfectly encompass autumn, I don't know what does

I thought this was the perfect fall outfit for the perfect fall day. It incorporated some very fall-esque items: plaid, flannel, olive, booties & a down vest. Oh, and the requisite pictures with leaves (above & below).

The weather this day was perfect, and it made me fall more in like (we're not at love. yet.) with fall. Normally I hang on to summer with every fiber of my being, but this year I've embraced autumn with halfway-open arms. Maybe it's the beautiful colors, or the slight chill in the air. Or that this summer was SO. HOT. Whatever it is, I don't hate it!

don't worry, we were stopped at a red light :)
I really dig the double plaid we had going on
This day was also amazing because this is the day we made an offer on our house, and it was accepted! I can't help but think that both of us in plaid is good luck. Don't be surprised if you see a lot more plaid over the next few weeks!

White After Labor Day

I wore this outfit last weekend to check out some open houses. We'd like to buy a home, and soon, but we've got to discover what we like first. We checked out 2 open houses, weren't impressed, and then drove around town, checking out neighborhoods and areas we thought we might like. We ended the night with dinner, then headed home to love on the pups, and work on the computer, or blog, in my case. Pretty exciting Saturday, huh?

And speaking of Saturday activities, we're going sky diving today! Indoor sky diving, actually (don't worry, Mom!). We received a gift certificate from my in-laws for our wedding anniversary in June, and are finally going to use it today to celebrate my husband's birthday, and our dating anniversary (8 years!). Nothing like combining several occasions into one, right? I'll be sure to report back and post pictures of our indoor sky diving adventure. We've both never been, and can't wait to experience the thrill, with a fraction of the risk of actually jumping out of a plane.

I wore this outfit to prove that you CAN wear white after Labor Day. I originally had planned to wear these pants with a chunky sweater and booties, but the day proved too warm for that. So, I leaned a bit more on the summer-y side and wore sandals and short sleeves, which was fine, since this was the last day of summer ;)

What do you think about wearing white after Labor Day? I'm hoping to pair these pants with boots and a big sweater this winter to stretch their wear-ability.

Two-fer

I wore the above combination to work, and then the below to run some errands in the evening, so I thought I'd share them both with you. I'm still hanging onto summer with my shorts & neon sandals, but stepping into fall with the flannel. I'm really digging the print and fit of this shirt - it's a feminine take on a masculine classic.

And the colors!
Navy blue! Bright green! Neon!

*be still my heart*

It was starting to get a bit chilly in the evening, so pants and close-toed shoes it was. The
nude & "rose-gold" flats are from Target, and the purse is from Kohl's. Do you remember the brand

Mudd®? Those were the only brand of jeans I wanted to wear in middle school, and into high school. However, I grew out of them, and went in search of other (more expensive) jeans. So, imagine my surprise when I saw this brown & neon pink purse (ON THE CLEARANCE RACK!)

and it was by Mudd®. Obviously, it came home with me.

And I've been receiving compliments left & right, ever since.

Do former favorite brands ever jump out & surprise you? This seems to be happening to me a lot lately, and in the best way possible!

Minted in Stripes

Cali girl in the background

I can't believe I'm saying this, but...

Happy 1st day of Fall!

I'm a summer-lover, and usually detest fall & winter, but this year, I'm ready for a change. I'm sure I'll be singing a different tune by November, but, for now, I'm looking forward (a little bit) to fall.

We've got football on the TV, a fall candle burning, and I've got plans to swap around my closet a bit this afternoon. I won't put away summer clothes entirely (we still have warm temps into October, sometimes into November), but I'll pull my colder weather clothes towards the front, so they're easier to access. With that said - layering, here I come!

On a different note, I painted my nails this morning and used a new trick an old friend told me about. This friend's mom owns a nail shop, so this friend is kind of an expert. She told me to paint my nails, then put them into a bowl of ice water for a few minutes - the cold water would "set" my nails and dry them. I was skeptical, but I tried it, aaaaaand, it worked! My fingers felt all tingly after, but it sped up the drying process, and who doesn't want their nails to dry faster??? Give it a try and let me know what you think!

Turbo is like me and prefers warmth & sunshine to cold & snow - he likes to lay in the grass or on our patio and bask in the sun. Cali, on the other hand, LOVES to run (OK, not a real run, more like "hop like a bunny") in the snow. They sure do take after their favorite person in our house ;)

I guess you could say I'm kinda-sorta-starting to like fall, it's not love. yet ;)

A Hat to Keep Me Dry

Do you keep up with the news? If so, you'll have heard that Colorado has received record-breaking amounts of rain this past week. Due to this rain, some parts of the state are flooded, and several roads and highways have simply given way to the water. Rivers and creeks have overtaken bridges, and major roads that are in danger of being flooded have closed.

Because of all this rain, my work was closed today, so I'm lounging at home, catching up on my DVR, blogging, and tackling my weekend to do list, which includes really exciting things, such as ironing and working on our family budget. It's ok to be jealous ;)

Let's talk about my outfit, shall we? I mean, that's why you're here, isn't it? The tank, vest & booties are all recent purchases. The studded tank and booties are from Old Navy, and I bought both because I had nothing like them. The Mr. is not a big fan of the booties - but to him, I say "Too bad, I like 'em!" I snagged this vest at a thrift store - I think it's a fresh twist on a regular denim vest. It's more cream than white, and I'm envisioning taking it into winter with jeans and a long sleeved shirt.

And this hat (and my booties) helped to bring this outfit into fall a wee bit. I'm still rocking summer with my shorts and tank under the vest, but inviting fall in with the booties and felt fedora, and the oxblood colors of my tank and hat. See? Easy peasy to mix seasons ;)

I'm linking up over here today with my hat!
