sunny sunday blues

You guys, I've had a great Sunday. I slept in, went on a great run with my best friend (so many endorphins! I didn't want to die! we only walked for about half a minute! the sun was out! there was a breeze!), caught up with my bestie, had bacon and eggs and coffee, played with my pups outside. We might have a long-boarder among our canine companions - the verdict is still out. He drags it backwards, and also tries to bite it. Maybe he thinks it's alive? Either way, it's very entertaining. And he is now pooped. So, that's a win.

In other news, this outfit. This top is actually two tank tops. The top is a sheer blue button-up chiffon deal, and the bottom is a navy blue star print ribbed tank. I thought it might be a fun way to subtley (quietly? demurely?) add some print to this blue, green and gray ensemble. And it's since made me look for a few more sheer/chiffon items to style in the same way. So far I've got a green floral top... Aaaand, I think that's it. So, stay tuned and maybe I'll come up with something. If not, you'll see this combination again. And would that be so terrible?

Hope your Sunday is pretty great, just like mine has been :)

Blizzard-ing

Sunny Sunday errands call for Dairy Queen Blizzards. Can you believe I got away with bare legs in November?? It was really short lived though - we had snow the following evening.

This look is composed of a few layers. First, a black American Apparel tank dress with Zeta Tau Alpha running down it in neon pink, layered under a slouchy pink striped sweater from Aéropostale. Secondly, a gray statement necklace paired with gray faux pearls. I'm all about adding dimension and texture, especially when it's the same color, or within the same color family - gives it a little something extra.

Accessories here include: jewelry, sunglasses, bag, and my fave - the Blizzard.

coral & olive

This was a Casual Friday outfit worn on the job site (with different shoes, obvi). Nothing crazy - solids, no print mixing, no crazy cuts or styles. But I will say I would have never paired this coral/orange top with olive green pants before I started blogging, so, that's a win. Right?

Hope you've had a nice weekend ;)

When You Don't Know What to Wear

When you don't know what to wear, try a pastel striped v-neck with a high-waisted chambray skirt. Throw on some metallic sandals for good measure. Consider soft curls in your hair. Have fun twirling and frolicking in your fun and flirty skirt (see above).

Happy Sunday!

Purple & Gray, Purple & Mint

This was one of those outfits that just came to me when I was standing in my closet in the morning before heading to work. It was like a lightbulb went off, and I grabbed purple, purple & gray. Like I mentioned before, I do better when I pick out my clothes the night before - there's less of a hurried scramble in the morning to get dressed & ready, and out the door (my brain seems to work in slow motion before my first cup of coffee has been digested). However, this must have just been one of those lucky days, I guess ;)

It was lucky in that we went house-hunting with our realtor, and fell in love with the second house we looked at! We did check out other ones just to make sure, but, this house is
THE HOUSE

I'm hesitant to share too much until we actually close, but please keep your fingers, toes, and all other appendages crossed for us! We're very excited to be taking this big kid step and purchasing our own home - we're definitely ready! (and tired of paying someone else our rent)

Hope you've had a great weekend - our Saturday was spent being so lazy and enjoying each other's company. It. Was. Perfect. Now, to be productive today...

[Mother's Day] Brunching

pockets! pockets!

my Mr. snaps away with the camera, while I throw out as many goofy things as I can. aaaaand they all get captured.

see what I mean? I think I was twirling here, and he just snaps away. and laughs.

This skirt combination is what I wore to celebrate Mother's Day with my in-laws. We had a delicious brunch, then everyone headed home to take naps.

Sunday afternoons are made for naps, don't you think? There's a window from about 1-5 where they're most acceptable, and I'm always on the look out for such an opportunity. In my bed, on the couch, by the pool, with the pups - I don't discriminate.

I threw this jacket in the car since I'm always freezing, and my Mr. is always roasting. He'll crank up the AC cause he's hot and my teeth are chattering. This past February, we drove up to the mountains to do some skiing and I made sure I was prepared for his freezing cold car temperatures. Or so I thought...I wore at least 3 layers on top, a scarf, leggings, wool socks, and boots, along with a North Face jacket in my lap. He closed his car vents so I could have all the warm air, and I was still freezing! He opened his window to get some air, and I just couldn't get warm! *sigh* The next car we buy WILL have separate climate controls for driver & passenger! Until then, I'm becoming an expert at layering, and will have to keep extra blankets, jackets, socks, gloves, snowpants, and parkas in the car...

Sunny Sunday

I got to wear a skirt and a tank top today - the temperature got up in to the 80s! Whaaat? Tomorrow is supposed to be beautiful as well, but don't worry, Wednesday is calling for snow

...BUT...

there's nothing I can do about it, so I'll just roll with it ;)

It was windy when we took these pictures, so it was hard to get a flattering shot,
especially from the front. Does that happen to anyone else?

Just me?

Happy Sunday - have a great week!

Clothes I'm Parting With

I went through my closet this last week (I had some free time with all the snow), and have some items I'm ready to part with. There's not TONS of room in my closet now, but I can move things around a lot easier - and that feels great for a nerd like me.

Here are the items I'm going to take to my favorite consignment store, Trends. Whatever they don't take will get donated to a local ARC or Goodwill.

left to right: Ann Taylor oatmeal sweater; J Crew mustard sweater; black & white short sleeve jacket

left to right: brown & black goucho pants; pink plaid bermuda shorts (on me they're more like capri length); black tulle skirt; light blue shorts; white shorts

left to right: strapless white top; red tunic length top; Love & Pink shirt from VS; dark green slouchy top; long sleeved blue shirt; black & blue printed sleeveless top; black crewneck shirt; gray slouchy "bat wing" shirt; brown & white striped shirt

left to right: BCBGirls sandals; white belt; mint colored scarf

There were also some things I already gave away to some friends and my sweet mama.
(not pictured)
to 1 friend: pair of gray pants
to another friend: 2 dresses - 1 pewter & black, the other purple & teal
to my mama: a purple cocktail dress; pink skirt; pink sweater & striped scarf

In other news, this was my Sunday morning while my Mr. slept in...
Turbo, lazily observing

Cali, imploring me to snuggle

essentials: a (fancy) new tumbler & Vera Bradley mug, filled (and refilled) with coffee

Here's to parting with things I no longer need, and enjoying what remains of the weekend!
