show stealer

The cute, white, furry nugget (also known as "The Handsome") makes an appearance in today's look and steals the show. So much for my brightly-colored poncho, huh?

PS - these pants aren't sticking around in my maternity capsule wardrobe - there is no zipping them all the way up...

late bloomer

Do you remember all of the hype a few years ago over the Prabal Gurung for Target line? It was what alerted me to this "Target pairing up with designers" phenomenon that takes over fashion and style blogs whenever one occurs/is about to occur. I was too late to the Prabal Gurung party, as well as the Philip Lim purse soiree, but, in just a few short years, this multicolored  Prabal Gurung skirt found its way to me - I spotted it from several feet away (since this print is pretty memorable) at the thrift store with my girlfriend, Amanda (hi, friend!), and snagged it to try on.

It originally had 3 inches of black lace on the bottom that I took some scissors to once I got home, so you're seeing it in its altered and shortened state. I was pretty jazzedto end up with something that excited me from so long ago, and I've decided I'm going to try my hardest to pair it with tights and boots this fall and winter - won't it be such a nice pop of color on a cold winter day?

I'm easily envisioning it with black and/or gray, but with so many colors in the skirt, I'm sure I'll end up pairing it with something pretty bright, kind of like how I pulled in purple, coral, and red above. It felt a bit loud, but there's no way to tone down such a fun and swishy skirt - you've really got to live it up and pair it with as many colors as possible.

Monday brights

Unbeknownst to me in the wee hours of the morning, this brightly colored dress is the perfect solution to the Monday-don't-know-what-to-wear conundrum. It's a bright jolt to wake you right up, but, it's a soft cotton knit that is also comfortable / hides your weekend overindulgences / hides those Monday morning donuts you might happen to bring to the office.

And, a dress is a complete outfit - no need to find a top to match your pants or skirt, or finding that clean pair of pants to wear with the shirt you've had your eye on. A dress is a one-piece that covers your body in one shot. But, of course, if you feel the need to accessorize with a belt, or scarf, or layer on top, you always have that option.

Obviously, I did not add much to this dress - a necklace and some bangles, and I kept the shoes neutral. The dress is so bright that to add a lot more to it feels like I'm screaming.
And, on a Monday, that's definitely not appreciated, even if it comes with donuts.

Hope you had a great weekend, and hope your week is off to decent start...you know, for a Monday ;)

Lill-ay rompa'

This bright printed romper is the result of attending the Lilly Pulitzer for Target release and discovering that even though you were eighth in line, everything was gone by the time you could reach the racks at the store closest to you (and then you drive twenty minutes to another Target where there is still somewhat of a selection).

And then you remember that you're short and can most likely wear items from the little girls' section. And you go to the little girls' section and find a romper in an XL-XXL or something with several extras in front of it. And you try it on, and it covers your body. And you buy it, because, Lilly.
And then you put it on in the summer (several months later) and realize it's not quite cut for hips and a (small chest).

But, you go forth, wearing neon sandals and a bejeweled headband, because you can. And it's summer, and it's hot, and this romper is clutch for that kind of weather.
I mean, pockets.
Helloooo.

shifting

The entire day I wore this, I kept getting told that I looked
“Bright! And spring-ey!”
which is normally a look I very much enjoy. But lately I find myself more drawn to neutrals and clothes that aren’t quite as “loud.” Not that I think my love for neon will ever go away, but I recently went through my closet (again), and comparing what I got rid of (lots of brights) to what is remaining in my closet (neutrals and solids), is almost comical. However, a friend of mine is very into brights lately, so she benefitted from my purge. What’s funny is that we used to be on opposite ends of that spectrum – me into brights and prints, and her more into neutrals and solids. And now, we’ve done a complete 180. However, both of these items made the cut, so, I’m not completely on the dark side.

April Outfit Recap

Here's a collage of the oufits I posted in April, for all you visual learners out there. Obviously I got dressed the other 14 days of the month, but these were the ones worth sharing on the days that also I put some effort into my hair & makeup (get more sleep or do my hair & makeup? it's a debate I have every. single. day).

My goal in doing this is to see what I do & don't like, see what is worth remixing, and see what needs to go. And also to evaluate my posing skills & choice of landscapes - I kid. But really, I do need to take some photos not by our apartment...Goal #1: take pictures somewhere other than by our apartment.

I feel like I'm back in school and writing an analysis paper on the pros & cons of what I wore, how to fix it/make it better/make a profit (I was a business major), what I would change, and what I learned in summary. Maybe I should throw in a profit & loss statement, or some currency conversations for good measure. Just kidding - don't get me started on currency conversions. That's a story for another day when we have absolutely nothing to talk about, and you have a serious question about international finance...

Observations:
- Annie likes to wear brown boots.
- She likes to wear bright colors, purple & pink (not necessarily together).
- Scarves are pretty great.
- Annie likes to smirk.
- Apparently, she also loves to wear maxi skirts.
- She is into skinnies, even though her Mr. is not.
- She likes to dress in layers.

From the above observations, I have come up with these goals for our participant:
1. Take pictures somewhere other than by your apartment
2. Incorporate different hemlines & silhouettes by wearing more dresses, skirts, maybe even shorts?!
3. Continue to mix textures
4. Print mix more!

In conclusion, we can confidently say that Annie is coming out of her wardrobe shell, and is getting away from being matchy-matchy & boring. She still has some work to do, but she is making progress, and we estimate that with the implementation of the four goals stated above, next month's report will receive even higher scores. She should also get herself out of bed in the morning to work out, and then make herself look nice, because she knows she should.

Sunny Sunday

I got to wear a skirt and a tank top today - the temperature got up in to the 80s! Whaaat? Tomorrow is supposed to be beautiful as well, but don't worry, Wednesday is calling for snow

...BUT...

there's nothing I can do about it, so I'll just roll with it ;)

It was windy when we took these pictures, so it was hard to get a flattering shot,
especially from the front. Does that happen to anyone else?

Just me?

Happy Sunday - have a great week!
