30 for 30: day 19 + day 20

day 19

Cobalt & ikat.
And gray.
And dots.
And tassels.

So we have a bit of print-mixing going on here, but from a distance. And lots of neutrals, broken up by a fair amount of cobalt. Not my favorite look from this collection of 30 outfits (“collection.” sounds so fancy.), but not bad, either. Perfect for work, then seeing a girlfriend and playing closet. Then rolling on in to my parent’s house well after midnight…YOLO?

day 20

This sweatshirt dress is such a favorite of mine (maybe most favorite?). The color, the fit, the warmth, the fact that I can easily dress it up or down, wear it with tights or leggings and boots, or bare legs and sandals.

However, as with all dresses, I find it difficult to style it differently (almost) every time I wear it. It’s not that I’m opposed to wearing the same outfit over and over again, but I do like to challenge myself to find new ways to wear my clothes. Then I can really maximize the use/wearing of items in my closet. I do this by changing out my shoes, accessories, jewelry, layers, and bags.
Sometimes I’m more successful than others.

All of that to say, I’m about stumped on ways to wear this dress differently than I already have – I’ve done sandals, tights and boots, and almost every scarf that would look decent with this all navy dress. Any more ideas?

30 for 30: day 11 + day 12

Happy Thursday - we're slowly heading towards the weekend. It's sure been a doozy.

I've got big plans to check out the Lilly for Target Line with some girlfriends first thing on Sunday morning, so the weekend can't get here quickly enough.

30 for 30: day 1

I mentioned the other day that I was going to complete another 30 for 30 style challenge for the month of April. If you're new around here, I pick 30 items and have to style 30 outfits with only those items. It usually lasts about a month, give or take a few days (I mean, I AM posting my first outfit on the 5th day of April...).

So, sit back, relax, and watch me create 30 outfits (hopefully 30 different outfits) with 30 items that I picked from my closet.

You’ve seen this chambray dress and sandals several times before (here, here, and here). So, instead of boring you with the same old thing (and on the first day of my style challenge!), I spiced it up with some leopard.

I wore a leopard print button up UNDER the dress, and also added a leopard print belt. Yes, they're two (slightly) different leopard prints, but since leopard is a neutral (truth fact. look it up.), it works. Or, if it's too busy and you think it doesn't work, then let's call it creative print mixing.

Sometimes I worry that too much leopard is just too much, but this strikes just the right balance, by allowing the collar and sleeves to peek out from under my dress.

And this is my favorite part. The shirt has a tab and button thingey-deal to hold up a folded sleeve. And so does my dress. So, being the fancy sleeve folder that I am, I used the tab on my shirt, and the button on my dress to keep my sleeves up.
And I dig it.
So much.
First time I've tried it, and I love how it turned out.

C to D

And here we go, from C to D (A to B here, and B to C here).
C was pedicures and lunch, and D was dinner at a steakhouse.

the most handsome pup in the world. besides his handsome brother...

The above outfit featured an embroidered tank top under a white button-up shirt, a fun scarf, skinnies, and neon sandals. Perfect for an unseasonably warm winter Saturday - I took off the scarf and button-up at least a few times each. It helps to have layers to keep me cool, hot, and comfortable.

And for dinner, I abandoned the button-up shirt and scarf, added a light blue cardigan, faux leather jacket and booties. I kept the embroidered tank top and skinnies the same, allowing me to change from one event to the next in (almost) record time.

taking advantage

You might remember a few days ago I mentioned that spring is NOT here.

Yet.

But I said I had a few spring-ish outfits to share. This is the first one. Bare legs AND sandals. You guys, that's unheard of for late February.

But, it happened.

I was a wee bit chilly, but I was bound and determined to take advantage of the sunshine, so I did.
And had goosebumps when I wasn't in direct sunlight.

Aaah, the price to pay for a little Vitamin D in the middle of winter.

90 miles to cuba, part 2

This was an outfit I wore one evening in Key West with my family. We biked to Duval Street to listen to a live band at a little wine and jazz bar. My sis-in-law and I ended our evening with champagne. And it made me think that I'd like to end every evening that way. Cheers.

fall two-fer, number 1

A two-fer outfit post for ya today, and another one tomorrow. Need to get these bad boys posted so I can start sharing my 30 for 30 outfits - we ARE halfway through October already...

Outfit #1

This ensemble went to work, and lunch at a yummy Mexican place for something smothered in creamy habanero sauce...

chambray: Kohl's
green jeans: from a friend
bag: thrifted
sandals: Walmart

Outfit #2

This outfit is what I wore to spend time with one of my best friend's new babies. My husband met him for the first time that day and the man is obsessed. This little guy has cheeks for days and he wants nothing more than to be bounced or rocked while he's held. Such a cutie.
