On the Patio

pretending to be tall

Nothing too fancy today, but sometimes simple is truly the way to go. That's why I love dresses - they don't require too much thought. I did choose my neon sandals because (1) I love them, (2) they're comfortable, and (3) I thought I'd spice up my simple dress with some color.

Also, this is our little patio off our apartment - the pups love to lay out here in the sun and work on their tans. Or nap. They do a lot of napping...

Mr. Picks Mondays: Python Print

remember that part in Dodgeball where Ben Stiller's team from Globo Gym (the COBRAS) does their little team cheer?
*pat*pat*HISSSSS*
that's what I was doing here, you know,  since my shirt has a snake print. get it?
senior pictures, anyone?

Confession time: I went shopping this weekend...the sun was finally out, aaand I'd done all my chores, aaand my husband was napping, aaand the dogs had been walked & fed, aaand I had Old Navy Super Cash. So, off to Old Navy I went with my friend, Becca (hey girl heyyyy!). And boy, oh, boy, did I find some goodies! I got this python print shirt, some pants, and a couple more shirts that I'm sure you will be seeing sooooooon!

When my Mr. was picking out my outfit last night, I reminded him that I had some new goodies he could choose from, so, he chose this'a one. And I gotta admit, the more I see this shirt, the more I like it! Don't think I've ever had anything with snake print before...and since this shirt is printed chiffon, I stayed cool with the changing temps all day. It started out in the 50s, then by this afternoon hit the high 70s. But a hot high 70s. And humid. Blegh. With all this rain, there's so much humidity in the air. OK, comparatively, it's still dry in Colorado. But when you're used to dryness, and then you're blasted with humidity, it's not pleasant. Not pleasant in a "my face breaks out and my hair frizzes" way. Too much?

Anywayyyys, hope you had a great Monday and your week is off to fantastic start! And if it's not, well, only a few more days til Friday ;)

Lumberjack Stole my Necklace

I know the first three pictures don't show it too well. but this shirt has plenty of bright colors in it. Paired with my necklace, my husband said "You look like a little lumberjack. A lumberjack who stole a fancy necklace." Hence, the name of this post. You know me, putting a spin on a classic plaid shirt with some lilac capris, a statement necklace, and metallic sandals.

It's still raining here. The sun was out Friday afternoon, and most of the day yesterday, so I thought we were in the clear. And then, last night, as I was running, it started raining. No, not raining. Pouring. So, that was fun. ALMOST didn't need a shower by the time I got home. Almost.

I posted some items on Poshmark - have you heard of it? It's an iPhone app that allows you to virtually "shop" someone else's closet or sell items from your own closet. There's a link to my "closet" over in my sidebar >>>
or find me through the app on your iPhone: SweetBananie.

Hope you enjoy the rest of your weekend! We're staying inside and dry, away from all the rain.

Pulling out the Neon

ignore my weirdly strained face - I was twirling!

If you look closely, you'll see the little pink flowers in my skirt that matched my shirt. Those little bitty bits of pink are what I was trying to pull out of my skirt with this bright top. Before, I always wore this skirt with a tan/beige top, but I'm realizing there really are a lot more ways to wear it than with a plain top. I thought about wearing something with stripes to do some print mixing, but the skirt already has 3 different prints, so instead of adding to the busyness, I added a solid. What do you think?

Oh, and it was a bonus that my new necklace perfectly matched the mint color in my skirt :)

My Gosh, Galoshes!

Before we begin, this pretty girl (above) is one of my oldest friends, and the first person besides my husband who I told about my blog. Last Saturday, she sent me this picture and said "Pattern mixing & coordinating details (sandals+belt&clutch+lipstick) inspired by Sweet Bananie. What do you think? :)"

I have to admit, this was pretty flattering! And doesn't she look great? Makes me itch to do some more pattern-mixing...What's funny is I'm the one who always sends her pictures of my outfits and asks for advice ;)

Sorry for the terrible picture quality (again). My Mr. has been crazy busy with work the past few weeks, and with the rain & floods this past week, was stuck in Denver due to road closures. Don't worry - he stayed with friends and had a grand time ;) But I haven't seen him in days, so I'm starting to forget what he looks like...just kidding! But, I sure do miss him. And the pups do, too - I'm not as fun to wrestle with, as I'm more of a cuddler.

This is what I wore to work on Thursday. Someone teased me about wearing rain boots in the morning, and by the afternoon, I'm sure they were eating their words, as that's when we heard about flooding all over the front range. The boots were a bit heavy to wear to all day inside, but whenever I had to run outside, I was glad I had them on - dry feet FTW.

Hope you have a great (and dry) Saturday. Reports of the devastation due to the flooding are coming in, and some areas were hit very hard - it's tough, especially since some areas in Colorado were hit so hard by the fires this summer & last.

Maybe we should move? I vote the beach.

Linking up over here today for What I'm Loving Fridays. I'm not loving the flooding, but I am loving being safe, and having dry feet, thanks to my boots!

A Hat to Keep Me Dry

Do you keep up with the news? If so, you'll have heard that Colorado has received record-breaking amounts of rain this past week. Due to this rain, some parts of the state are flooded, and several roads and highways have simply given way to the water. Rivers and creeks have overtaken bridges, and major roads that are in danger of being flooded have closed.

Because of all this rain, my work was closed today, so I'm lounging at home, catching up on my DVR, blogging, and tackling my weekend to do list, which includes really exciting things, such as ironing and working on our family budget. It's ok to be jealous ;)

Let's talk about my outfit, shall we? I mean, that's why you're here, isn't it? The tank, vest & booties are all recent purchases. The studded tank and booties are from Old Navy, and I bought both because I had nothing like them. The Mr. is not a big fan of the booties - but to him, I say "Too bad, I like 'em!" I snagged this vest at a thrift store - I think it's a fresh twist on a regular denim vest. It's more cream than white, and I'm envisioning taking it into winter with jeans and a long sleeved shirt.

And this hat (and my booties) helped to bring this outfit into fall a wee bit. I'm still rocking summer with my shorts and tank under the vest, but inviting fall in with the booties and felt fedora, and the oxblood colors of my tank and hat. See? Easy peasy to mix seasons ;)

I'm linking up over here today with my hat!

Bridesmaid loves a Groomsman

Over Labor Day weekend, two of our dear friends tied the knot. We've both known him since high school, and met her several years ago through him and became fast friends - her bachelorette party was the one I went to in Vegas. They're the folks we grill with in the summer, spend New Year's Eve in with, and go "out on the town" with.

They've got a darling 3 year old son, a beautiful home that they own, and exciting new job prospects on the horizon. She just accepted a job that will take them a few more hours away from us, but their plan is to only be gone for a year or so - thank goodness! Here is what I (and my husband) wore to, before & during their nuptials...

I wore this to get my nails done with the brides & the other bridesmaids, and then to the rehearsal.

between dinner & dancing
at the cowboy bar, with my margarita - my beverage of choice. always.
After the rehearsal (it was in the morning), I had to run a few errands and was in desperate need of a shower - the rehearsal was outside and it was so. hot. I showered, put on a pretty face with some pretty hair, and my newest Lilly Pulitzer dress (D picked it out for me for my birthday in March).

We went to the rehearsal dinner, ate delicious food & dessert, toasted the bride & groom, then headed to a cowboy bar. Now, I do not claim to be a cowgirl or country (my "boots" are Steve Madden, not at all suited for riding or wrangling), that's my sweet sis-in-law.

However, I sure do love country music and dancing. At this bar, there was a live band AND dancing. And there were a few country boys in our group that knew how to dance. I spent the majority of the evening dancing with them and being twirled and twisted and spun so much that I didn't know which way was what.

It's really fun to dance with someone who knows what they're doing - especially when you have no idea. I like to think it makes me a better dance partner, since I don't know what I'm doing and am definitely not trying to lead - I just follow and twirl and spin wherever they lead me.

We had a really fun evening with the rest of the bridal party, then headed home to get some beauty sleep for the next day's festivities.

I got my hair done for the big day, and I loved it.
the bride got us all matching robes to wear while getting ready
the bride's sister did my makeup, and thank goodness (I'm hopeless with hair and makeup)! s
he used some "freezing spray" on my eye makeup so it didn't run in the heat.
best. invention. ever.

my bridesmaid bouquet - it's only a wee bit wilted now
he wore gray in our wedding, so this tux on him brought back memories of our own wedding day last summer
hey, we're married, so it's OK to celebrate our love & marriage at another wedding ;)
After the bride & groom said "I do" and "I will", we got down to the business of dancing at the reception. Sorry, I only have a few grainy & poorly lit pics from that portion of the evening that aren't worth sharing - I was really busy dancing and having a grand time ;)

How many weddings have you attended this summer?
