Workin' Girl

This is what I wore on my last day at my old job this past Friday. I'm still at the same University, but now in a different department. I left on great terms and it was really tough to leave! I've really enjoyed the people I worked with there, but am looking forward to new responsibilities & challenges in my new position.

Shirt: WalMart
Skirt: Urban Outfitters via clothing swap
Sandals: Maurice's

This is what I wore to my first day at my new job yesterday. I scored this dress at Kohl's over the weekend with some Kohl's cash and a coupon. I'm trying to find dresses that provide more coverage so I can wear them to work - easier said than done, my friends.

Things went well my first day, but you know how you can't really jump into a new job the first day? There's lots of paperwork and processes and orientations and trainings to go through? I'm ready to be done with those and into my new support role! Of course, I know I won't learn it all in a day, but I'm ready to get rolling with the learning and the doing :)

This super cute clutch is from Aéro - they sent it to me before their Aéro Rocks Fashion event last week. It's the perfect size for when I don't want to carry TOO much, but need more than what can fit in my little carry-all wallet.

Unrelated to switching jobs and outfits, I'm going to discontinue my "monthly outfit recaps." They're a lot of work to summarize what I posted just days ago, and they feel redundant to me. Please let me know if you think otherwise. Are there any topics you'd like to see more of? Running, budgeting, living within our means, my supersweetsupercute dogs?

Aéro Rocks Fashion

this is a sponsored post, however, all opinions are my own

Several weeks ago, Aéropostale reached out to me about an event they were hosting at my local store last Monday. They were unveiling their new fall line, and invited me and two guests to attend. They covered their store windows after close on Sunday, and unveiled their new look at 4 pm on Monday for their Aero Rocks Fashion event, all over the country.

I hadn't been to an Aéro since my freshman year of college, I think - that whole "college student budget" thing (my budget was that I had ZERO money to spend on clothes). But I was blown away by the items in the store - lots of cute sweaters, tops, jackets, pants, shoes, jewelry - you name it! I used to have several polo shirts from Aéro, as did most of my friends, in high school, and I'll admit, I wore those things out! Aéropostale has refreshed their look, and I'm a big fan! I came home with some great things to rock this fall (below).

I'm a terrible blogger - this is the only picture I took at the event. It's a maxi dress - the light makes it look green-ish, but it was actually more of a tan/khaki. Really cute, but a bit too long for this shortie here. *sigh*
L to R: ponté knit blazerfaux leather trim ponté pants; zip pocket ponté pantslola core black wash jegging
Can we talk about those faux leather trim ponté pants?? SO excited to have found them! I'm imagining them with boots and a big sweater this fall & winter. They're along the lines of "riding pants," but are a bit edgy with the faux leather on the sides. *swoon*

scarf & headbands: swag bag from Aéro Rocks Fashion event; clutch: c/o of Aéropostalemarled contrast-stitch active cropped leggings
These marled contrast-stitch active cropped leggings are part of Aéro's active line, Live Love Dream. I've got running shorts, and running tights, but these are my first pair of capris. They immediately caught my eye because of the pretty marled gray color, and the neon stitching. I told you neon makes me run faster, right? My running shoes are bright orange #truestory #proof #justkiddingimstillreallyslow

I've got several races coming up this fall, and these will be perfect for a chilly morning event here in Colorado. And they're a little different than the typical black capris/leggings that everyone else seems to wear ;)

I've got some great ideas in mind for these new pieces and can't wait to share them with you! Be sure to check out the new arrivals at Aéropostale - there are some great items at really affordable price points!

Happy Monday! Sorry, no Mr. Picks Mondays today or last week - he's been in Vegas since Saturday, so I had to pick out my own outfit :/ tough way to start the week, I know!

And please accept my apology for my week long absence - big changes in our little family! I've switched jobs and my sweet Mr. got a promotion! More on that soon!

Fabulous Lost Wages

Two weeks ago I went to Las Vegas for a friend's bachelorette party. It was a quick (and early!) trip. Our flight left Denver at 7:20 AM, and then we left Vegas at 7 AM two days later to head home. We ended up barely napping Saturday night/Sunday morning before our flight home. Needless to say, I was exhausted! Fun was had by all, but I sure was glad to get home and sleep in my own bed and get back to a regular sleep schedule!

I don't want to share pictures of the other girls here on the interwebs, but here are some snapshots of the quick trip. I didn't snap pictures of everything we did - we saw Thunder from Down Under (so great!), but to take a picture with the guys was $20, so I passed. I'm on a budget, ya know.

Enjoy!

just hanging out at the baggage claim
we got suckered into this. but I came home with a really pretty pearl ring, so I'm not TOO upset ;)
we did some of this both days at the pool and it was wonderful
it's grainy, but this is what I wore our first night out: black top, neon orange lace skirt & red wedges
what I wore to explore Fremont Street & eat at In-N-Out Burger for the first time
and what I wore the second night - same shoes as the night before. we walked to the other end of the strip this night, hence the blisters on my heels I mentioned before...

making faces & taking selfies while I waited for the other girls to finish getting ready
the mothership - across the street was as close as I got :(

Vegas was fun, especially with the girls, but laying low at home is more my speed, I'm thinking. My Mr. heads to Vegas this coming weekend for the corresponding Bachelor Party, so we'll see what he thinks of Sin City.

Happy Sunday! I've got to go on my long run this afternoon (my Dad and I plan to do another half marathon in September) - wish me luck!

Kacey, Eric, Kenny & the EYB

yes, those are croakies attached to my sunglasses - my brother & sis-in-law got me hooked. this pair came from a CO Rockies game, but for my next pair, I'm thinking something with my monogram...and yes, they are essential to my everyday life

This is what I wore to a concert last Saturday. Not just any concert. More like a get together of some old and new friends. Old friends like Kenny & the EYB, and new friends Eric & Kacey. We're such good friends that we're on a first name basis.

*I wish*

I saw Kenny at Cheyenne Frontier Days (the mother of them all!) in 2009 with my Little, who is also named Annie and is blonde. And then I saw the Eli Young Band at the Grizzly Rose in 2010 with my roommates - the guys dressed up like the characters from South Park since they were performing in Colorado (nice touch). Great shows by both.

My sweet Mr. got tickets to see Kenny Chesney, Eric Church, the Eli Young Band, and Kacey Musgraves as part of the No Shoes Nation Tour at Sports Authority Field at Mile High (where the Denver Broncos play) for our first wedding anniversary in June (the first anniversary gift is paper). He told me I could take anyone I wanted to the show and I said "You. Obviously!" and he said "Are you sure? You can take ANYONE." (he's not a fan of country). But I think he enjoyed himself at the show - he even liked a few of Eric's songs, and some EYB tunes. And he admitted that Kenny puts on a good show. Cause he really does.

NO SHOES NATION forevaaaaa!

in the car on the way to the show
don't worry - we were at a complete standstill. we sat in traffic for well over an hour to get to the stadium
in our seats, watching the Eli Young Band. gosh, they're so good!
his Corona, my marg. typical.

Colorado sunsets - nothing better
Kenny! Kenny Chesney!
Thank you for the tickets, and for being my date, sweetheart! You know how those 4 musicians speak to my soul. Them and Jimmy Buffett, of course. (I'm a HUGE Parrothead - did you know?) No one else I would have wanted to go with! Now it's my turn to go to a show of your choice, I guess ;)

and I'm linking up over here today for Friday's Five Link Up, so check it out!

Dogs & a Dress & a Hat

Did I tell you my secret? My secret when it comes to hats, I mean.

I wear them when I'm having a BAD hair day - noamountofdryshampoobabypowderorteasingisgoingtomakethislookpresentable bad day.

Whew. Feels good to have that out in the open.

Alas, another secret.

The day I wore this, my hair wasn't THAT bad. True story. But I did want to make sure I wore a hat so I could link up over at Marionberry Style. Do you see what I did there? Added a little something to my outfit to make my blog better! Ta da!

And I realized as we were walking the dogs today, that they were featured the last time I wore this dress on the blog. I just can't help it - they're so cute! And they have to get walked, and my outfits have to be documented, so, sometimes it's just easiest to do them at the same time. And by sometimes, I mean most of the time.

Happy Friday!

Family Dinner

that's a speakeasy behind me. been there 1 time. and it was neat.

sparkly shoes again! it's not that I WANTED to wear them, but that I HAD to. my heels were covered in blisters from my trip to Vegas, so something without backs were (was?) necessary #truestory
Mama, embarrassed by my lovin'

A few weeks ago, my parents came through town on their way home from Yellowstone. They swung by my work and got the grand tour, then headed downtown, where my Mr. & I met up with them for dinner. They had taken a guided kayaking tour and camped for a few days. They were full of stories of nature, and excitement for their hot showers and REAL bed they had slept in the night before.

They're pretty neat. And they go on cool trips. And SOMETIMES us kids get to go. But SOMEONE in our family has to work, I guess
 *sigh*
I'm a martyr over here, Mom & Dad.
I kid! You know I kid!

I mean, when you've been married (to the same person) for 30+ years, and have built successful careers doing what you love, and have the time AND money, it's totally acceptable to go cool places without inviting your grown children. I'm sure D & I will do the same. Someday.

Sort of related to the above topic, my parents call my brother and I their "bios" (biological children) and our spouses their "golden children" or the "chosen ones." Guess that proves who they like more.
Their daughter-in-law and son-in-law, obviously ;)
