30 for 30: Day 13 & Day 14

You'll have to trust me that this (above) is what I wore on Day 13 of my 30 for 30 Challenge. Nothing fancy, just another "gimme outfit." Which was fine, because this day was less than stellar. I woke up on the wrong side of the bed, spilled coffee all over myself on my way out the door, work was crazy busy, and the fire was still burning all over my beautiful hometown. I have since recovered from that day, and washed my coffee covered clothes. The fire is on its way to being contained, and we're on our way to the weekend!

And this (above) was Day 14. I wore my tan short-sleeved "safari" sweater (I think it looks like I'm headed on a safari when I wear it, so "safari" sweater it is) over the tank top for work - I covered those shoulders, don't you worry! I worked a half day, then packed up the car and headed to Denver for a friend's wedding. These pictures were snapped right before I tore apart our hotel room to get ready for the nuptials (Friday afternoon traffic is not conducive to making it to events in a timely & peaceful fashion). I covered my bases for my 30 for 30 in my monochromatic number, and still got to wear a dress I love for the wedding (pictures below).

real men wear pink. and purple. any pastel, really
if you're wondering, yes, we did coordinate our outfits! I think it looks so nice when a man & a woman coordinate for a special event - prom, a wedding, a ball. What do YOU think?

I have several pictures of us with the bride & groom and other friends, but don't feel comfortable sharing without their permission. The wedding was beautiful & we're glad we were able to see one of our oldest friends tie the knot. We caught up with several other friends from high school and danced the night away.

We both received several compliments on our ensembles - doesn't he look dapper in his vest? We got his suit, tie, and shirt from Men's Wearhouse last summer. My dress is a Lilly Pulitzer that my parents picked out for me last year. I don't have a full length shot of the dress to show you from this evening, but it's the same festive stripe design all over the dress, and the dress ends just above my knees. I wore wedges that have copper, pewter & gold straps. They'll make another appearance on here, I promise!

Fun (and comfortable) dresses are my favorite thing to wear for weddings. They're a one-stop-shop-outfit, and are a lot cooler than wearing layers. This ceremony was outside, but luckily we sat in the shade, and there was a nice breeze to keep us cool during the I-do's & the I-will's.

We'll be attending two more weddings this summer - 1 in July, and 1 in August (that we're both in!). How many weddings are on your agenda this summer?

30 for 30: Day 12

my best portrayal of angst
3 things:
1) I sure like to lean against walls a lot
2) apparently both of my legs can not be straight at the same time
3) when I smile, my eyes appear almost closed. it's ok - my mom & my big brother (and most of my extended family on 1 side) experience the same thing. laugh lines, my friends, laugh lines.
working on toning those arms of mine...takes longer than 1 arm workout, turns out...
Lara, this is for you. How is this for a real smile? ;)

Hiya! I'm still here - don't you fret! This weekend was crazy busy and this week got away from me. And also I'm trying to go to bed a lot earlier so I can run before work in the morning. So that means when it hits 8:30 I'm working on getting myself into my comfy bed - Memory. Foam. Mattress. Y'all. Life changing.

Anyways, hope you had a great week! I'll be back with an update on the fire, a wedding, the Tough Mudder, and more pictures of my clothes, and me wearing those clothes.

Ta ta for now!

I'm on Friday's Five!

Some good news for you lovely folks today! I'm being featured on Friday's Five Link Up over at
Coffee Beans and Bobby Pins and FACE IT Catalog with my post about our first wedding anniversary! Big things, my friends, big things!

Aaaand, I figured out how to make a "button" work on this here blog (above). Applause? Oh thank you, thank you, you're too kind!

In other news, my parents voluntarily evacuated their home last night and they are safe. My in-laws are safe, and so far their home appears unaffected.

We're heading to a friend's wedding this evening, and then my handsome Mr. will be completing the Tough Mudder on Sunday with friends (I'm going to be "Team Mom," complete with orange slices & juice boxes for the competitors). One of those friends being his bestie (do boys use the word "bestie"?) who lost his home in the Black Forest Fire - how's that for true friendship & comradery? Those two have been friends since kindergarten, and he was the best man at our wedding.

We're looking forward to some downtime & fun to take our minds off the fire in our hometown. However, we will be checking in on the news here.

Hope everyone has a great weekend! Stay safe!

30 for 30: Day 10 & Day 11

Day 10

Day 11

Not a lot of words for you today. The fire is still raging. My parents just evacuated their home, along with several thousand other people. I know too many friends & their families that have lost their homes. I'll be watching the news coverage all evening, and all day tomorrow to stay updated.

30 for 30: Day 9

This is what I wore Sunday. It was SO. HOT.

I waited all day for it to cool down so I could go running, but it never did! So, as soon as we took these pictures, I threw on my running shoes and new running skirt (from Marshall's!) and headed out. I had planned to do 4 miles, but since I didn't even get going til 8:20, I ended at 2. It was still warm out, but I didn't want to be running by myself in the dark.

I'm trying to get up early and go running before work before it gets too hot, but my bed and I have this really great relationship where we like to spend as much time together as possible. Any tips to becoming an early-riser so I can be a morning runner?

I hit up Old Navy & Marshall's this past weekend - Old Navy  had a great deal on running shorts for the whole family. They had 2 pairs left in my size, so I scooped up 1 pair, and then headed to the men's section and grabbed 2 pairs for my Mr. He's doing the Tough Mudder this weekend and wanted some lighter shorts for the big event. And at Marshall's I picked up a running skirt for $15 and a running bra in mint - pretty exciting things! I think my skirt makes me run faster...maybe not. Either way, I FEEL really fast & cool, so, that counts for something.

As for the Black Forest Fire, I've been following the news here. They just released a list of homes lost to the fire - some of my good friends have lost their family homes. My heart is breaking for them.360 homes lost to this fire, 14 partially affected.

30 for 30: Day 8

I wore this getup to do some bridesmaid activities. We picked up our dresses with the bride, and then went on the hunt for jewelry to wear for the big day. All of us bridesmaids are in the same color of dress, but we got to choose our own style. I chose a one-shoulder style, and have plans to wear it again for one of my cousin's weddings in January in Minnesota - brrrrr!

I thought I would dress up a bit by pairing wedges with these shorts. Aaaand, I had just done a leg workout, so I was feeling the need to bare my legs...the truth comes out.

UPDATE on the Black Forest Fire:
My folks are on & off pre-evacuation & optional evacuation. Some friends have lost their family homes. The wind keeps shifting & changing the direction the fire is headed in, so it's hard to say where it will head next.
