30 for 30: Days 3 & 4

Day 3

I did some necklace layering, and wore a fancy new bracelet from my mom / from Lia Sophia

This ensemble spent the day at my in-laws house, watching football reading and taking naps. Did I mention the naps? The naps were great - the bulldogs agree, too. Hard to see in the pics above, but I was wearing my olive green skinnies. They are so. comfortable. Perfect for lounging, napping, and reading books instead of watching football...

Day 4

this whole getting-dark-before-5-thing is really cramping my style. BIG TIME. so, a goofy pose to brighten up these dark & orangey photos in our entryway...

Again, hard to see my pants in these pictures, but these are my navy corduroys - never would have thought to wear them with this sweater before (aaah, before, when I had full use of my closet). Now, I have to look at things differently, squint a leetle bit, and take a creative license and assure my husband that my clothes DO actually go together :)

Green Pants and Furry Treats

turtles for good luck!

A few weeks ago, my best friend had a HUGE bag of clothes she was ready to part with, and she gave them to me. I pawed through them and pulled out my faves. Among them, these green pants.

Can I say I'm in love

The color, the fit, even the length - we are a true match made in heaven. Why hadn't she given them to me sooner?! I guess she was wearing them? I digress.

Anyway, I was thrilled, and I have a few other goodies I snagged that I'm going to share with you soon - I have to think up new and creative ways to wear them, first! She gets a kick out of the different ways I wear her old stuff (this is definitely not the first time she's shared her closet with me).

I realize today is Halloween, and I'm not wearing a costume. So un-festive, I know. It's not that I dislike Halloween - the opposite, actually! I especially love seeing the creative & thoughtful costumes that people put together - I get the biggest kick out of people watching, and I consider Halloween to be the championship. However, we don't get trick-or-treaters where we currently live, so, it's a little tough to get into the "holiday spirit" when you know that cute little kids in costume won't be coming by for some candy! But, I'm not a total party-pooper - my work is having a little Halloween potluck, and I'm bringing...

DEAD MICE!

EUUUUW!

GROSS!

Except for not!

Except for the part where they're delicious!

They're jalapeno peppers hollowed out and filled with cream cheese, then wrapped in bacon and baked (I know some people call them "jalapeno poppers", but "dead mice" is SO much more appropriate for All Hallow's Eve). I leave the stems on, so when they're all done, they really do look like little dead mice. They're pretty time consuming (I made them for FOUR hours straight last year), but SO. YUMMY. And they're always a hit, so the appreciation (and praise! and thanks!) is well worth the effort. If you're interested in the recipe, let me know and I'll be sure to post it and share.

it begins with hollowing out the peppers, which takes FOREVER.
wear gloves. DO NOT touch your face. eyes. anything.
see the little "tails"?
there they go...
Hope you have a great Halloween today! Any great costume ideas?

So Green!

action shot! not sure how my Mr. managed to capture me mid-fair-flip, but he did!

these shoes left me with some wicked blisters - the verdict is still out on whether they stay in my closet or not

Only after looking at these pictures did I realize how GREEN everything is. Normally Colorado has some green, but there's lots of brown, too - it's very dry here. With all the rain we received last week & weekend, everything "greened" right up. And then I added to it by wearing green pants (previously here), and this lovely scarf with hints of green. Sometimes I like to dress to match my environment. Only sometimes, though - sometimes I'll wear neon when it's gray & raining.

I have to say, these pants are so comfortable. They're quickly becoming some of my favorites. They're soft, and stretchy, and oh-so-easy-to-wear. I'm sure you will be seeing a lot more of them this fall and winter. And this scarf - it fades from peach to mint and back again. My friend, Lara, brought it back for me from Belgium when she went to Europe this past May with her brother. I also have another beautiful sky blue scarf she got for me in Italy when she studied abroad in college (it matches my eyes).

I put together this outfit with fall in mind, but in my new office, it seems to always be a wee bit too warm. I was roasting all day in this short-sleeved sweater and scarf. Needless to say, this winter will be interesting - at my last job, it was always freezing so I layered a lot and wore my heaviest sweaters. With this new job, I'm hoping I can still wear my winter sweaters and boots without being too toasty. We shall see!

Triple Print Mixing Triple Threat

sorority girl pose - as natural as breathin'

I did a side braid, and then braided that into a bigger french braid

I mixed THREE whole prints in this number! THREE! Granted, 2 of them are polka dots, but they're different sizes, so I say it counts :) My shirt has some white stripes, hard to see, I know, but trust me, they're there. I even got complimented on this outfit by a total stranger, in the bathroom, at the public library. Odd, yes? Flattering? You betcha ;)

This blazer is from Aeropostale. I knew it would be a great addition to my closet as soon as I saw it, since it can go over the top of just about anything (and it's really soft). I'm looking forward to wearing it as a light jacket, or as a blazer.

Now, you'll never hear me say I love cold weather. I am a sun&sand&heat&summer-lover, through and through. That being said, I AM excited to wear this jacket, and some other new things I've acquired, in the cooler months. There's not much like wearing new clothes for the first few times, am I right? And also, being that I live somewhere where it can snow in October just as easily as January or May, or even June, I'm very comfortable layering and thinking of clothes in terms of what I can wear them under or over. So, I am a wee bit excited to layer and wear scarves and add more depth to my outfits without sweating in the heat ;)

Hawaiian Style

THESE are some of my other new pants! check out those zippers!

I wore this to my new job's department picnic the other day. The theme was Hawaiian, and unfortunately (or fortunately?) I don't have any loud Hawaiian print shirts in my closet. My Mr. doesn't either. But if he did, it would swim on me, and I could wear it as a dress, er, muu muu ;)

So, I chose a tank with a parrot and "Hawaii" on it . And a flower in my hair. My own interpretation of Hawaiian. How did I do, Abby? (she's one of my besties who lives in Paradise)

*sigh*

We're trying to get me on a 1-way flight out there...

Mr. Picks Mondays - It's Not Easy Being Green

bows & bows
and more bows

Happy Mr. Picks Mondays, a few days late! Like I keep telling you, the weeks continue to get away from me.

For whatever reason, this shirt doesn’t see a lot of wear. Probably because I still have a TON of stuff in my closet…going through and getting rid of some of it has been on my to-do list for a few weeks now. Where has the time gone??? We’re cruising right along into August. Summer, don’t go! Although lately I’ve been thinking of great ways to layer my clothes when the cold weather has arrived…

Happy Wednesday!

30 for 30: Day 27 & Day 28

Day 27

above: What I wore on my trip home. I ALMOST missed my connecting flight in Chicago, even after sprinting through the terminal, wearing a backpack and pushing another carry on bag. That was fun. Not. But, I made it! And I made it home to my sweet husband and cute pups. Another successful family reunion completed :)

Day 28

this is me reacting to being told to stop posing with bent legs

the beginning of 200 cookies we (I) made for a friend's shower this weekend. I dreamt of cookies & cookie cutters that night...I'll be posting what I wore to that tomorrow!
Days 27 & 28 complete! This challenge is just about wrapped up - woohoo! I'm so excited to have use of my entire closet again (I did some shopping and can't wait to wear my new items!). I'll be posting a recap of this challenge in the next few days, so, if you're interested, keep your eyes open for that ;)
