classy in leather

I don't ride a motorcycle (but I DO ride a beach cruiser), and I’m not one to wear lots of leather (besides a jacket, shoes, or bag). However, I found this skirt at a thrift store and have silently been plotting ways for my sunshine-y/fuzzy/warm self to wear it.
Enter winter.
And tights.
And sweaters.

I added a cream sweater (with a wide v-neck collar - very feminine) to soften it up, and take the look from “lady of the night” to “fashion forward young strawberry blonde on a date with her husband.”

Did I nail it? I mean, if anything, the sweater helps, and the black herringbone print tights also contribute. The booties help a teeny bit, but maybe the low bun in the hair is really what takes it from edgy to modern classy…?
And cool.
Definitely cool.

30 for 30: day 31 & new boots

day 31

I’m so glad I got this white/cream cable-knit sweater last winter. It’s so soft, and comfortable, without being oversized or making me look sloppy or frumpy, and the color is more flattering to me than stark white. This piece got worn quite a lot during the last few days of this 30 for 30...

new boots

These boots are new. They arrived just in time for me to wear them on the last day of October (so maybe I didn't need that clause in my 30 for 30 Rules?).

I’ve been saving and saving and saving, and comparing boot styles anywhere and everywhere. I finally pulled the trigger on these Frye Campus boots via Nordstrom. And I’m in love. They’re not too equestrian, they’re not too western, they’re not too edgy, they’re not blah, and they’re this beautiful brown leather with a small enough stacked heel. I’m really enjoying wearing them, and while I know they’ll look great the more distressed they get, I’m also appreciating their newness and how pretty and un-scuffed they look. I might venture to say they’re “practically perfect, in every way.”

30 for 30: day 25 & day 26

day 25

I ventured out to see more cousins and aunt and uncles and mini-cousins for breakfast and new remote-controlled cars, then to lunch with another aunt and cousin (are you sensing that my days are centered around food?).

Then I took my cousin and his pup on a run, which sadly had to get cut short, due to a(n almost!) dead battery. Then we curled up on the couch and watched movies, and I fell asleep. No surprises there…

day 26

I flew back to Colorado early-early this morning, and was treated to breakfast just after the sun came up. Then, some IKEA ooh-ing and aah-ing, boot shopping (they're here! they're here!), ice cream-ing at Little Man Ice Cream, and home for a nap. No cute outfit to share, since I wore an old hat and leggings as pants…

Happy Monday! Hope you had a nice weekend - here's to an equally nice week :)

Double the Animal Print, Double the Fun

Double the animal print, double the fun, amiright?? Leopard AND python - it works because they're both accessories, rather than a whole piece of clothing, so they don't compete.

In other news, this shirt (and it's navy blue twin) didn't wash so well. The sleeves have this cute little cuff, and my washing machine kinda tore that up/out/to pieces. So, any tips to make the cuff stay flat without having to iron or sew would be greatly appreciated!

Happy Memorial Day Eve! I'm at home, waiting for the rain to quit so I can go on a long run - training for my next half-marathon in September!

Ooo, scarves and wind

Here are two more simple spring transitional looks. A sweater (or sweatshirt) with a coordinating scarf.  It's frigid and windy here lately - not a fan. Hence, the sweaters and scarves.
Oofta.
I'm ready for the warmer temps - bring on the sunshine!!

Now, to recreate my hair (and make up) from the day with the blue sweater...*sigh*

Mr. Picks Mondays: Weird April Weather

As you can see, I'm standing in snow. Now, I'm not going to complain, because in Colorado, we definitely need the moisture. However, I WILL say, that it is ALMOST May.
ALMOST MAY.
And May is ALMOST summer.
So, Weird April Weather, get with the program, mmk?

(more) Sweaters and (more) Transitional Dressing

Are you sick of me showing you 2 outfits in 1 post, yet? If not, are you sick of sweaters yet? Either way, here are two more spring transitional looks - warm sweaters in pastel and bright colors. Which is perfect, since we're supposed to get snow today :/

Sunshine and Sweaters

I promise the orange shirt (left) isn’t as blinding as it appears in these pictures – it’s a very pretty coral-meets-orange-meets-almost-pink shade.

However, here are two more transitional spring looks to check out. I layered with sweaters, scarves & belts because the weather isn’t QUITE there, JUST yet, but I made sure to use spring shades & textures. Oh, and flats – so nice to be able to make the switch from boots.

I’m itching to go full throttle with sandals and skirts and shorts and truly summer-y looks, but I’m holding back, for several reasons:

1)      We might get more snow. This weekend, actually.
2)      I’m going to wear my summer clothes ALL summer long, and eventually I’ll be dying to wear boots and sweaters again. I’m trying to prolong this feeling by wearing sweaters with skirts and bare legs, light jackets and light tops, and flats with everything.
3)      Eventually in the summer, I will be sick of all of my summer clothes, and want to replace them all because I hate them all (not really, but you get the point). So, by mixing them in with my colder weather items, I feel like I’m forced to be creative with cold AND warm weather clothes, and what is creativity if not a muscle? The more you use it, the better it is/becomes/looks/feels! Right??
4)      I have TONS of sweaters (even after recently paring them down. again.) and I want to make sure they get a wee bit more lovin' before they’re packed away until this fall/winter.

How do YOU dress for spring? Hang on to sweaters and coats as long as possible? Or do you embrace the warmth and break out sandals at the first sign of warmer temps?
