dresses x3

I picked up this gray striped t-shirt dress recently, and I’m disappointed I didn’t find it sooner. It’s so simple, and I can play almost any color scheme off of it.
Brights? Sure.
Neon. Why not?
Neutrals (my new fave)? Absolutely.
Did I mention it’s comfortable? And soft? And striped? Oh, and it’s gray.
*swoon*

This navy blue dress is a favorite around here. Last time, I took a patriotic turn. This time a green and brown approach. Nothing TOO terribly exciting, but a little different. And a belt at the waist makes it feel a bit more put together than say, a plain blue dress with no accessories.

And here’s the blue striped peplum dress. Feels like I can wear any color belt with it and immediately look put together (it helps that I don’t have TOO many belts that would look funny with it). Oh, and this belt just happened to go with my bright red wedges. Funny how that happens…

dots & leopard spots

This was a "first day of school" outfit. Not MY first day, but for plenty of people where I work. It drizzled for most of the day, and I ended up hoofing it across campus a few times - probably should have worn some better shoes, like, galoshes...?

brights. done right.

These colors are something I would have NEVER thought to pair together. I can't quite remember how they both ended up on my body on the same day - maybe it was dark in my closet? Maybe I felt like wearing bright colors all at once? Maybe I remember coloring with purple and green crayons all throughout elementary school? But I do know that later in the day, or possibly the next day, I saw someone on Instagram wearing a purpley shirt with minty-green pants, so I thought "Hey, it ain't so bad! I might be on to something here..."

So, as newly minted expert on wearing brights together, don't feel like you have to wear neutrals on top with bright pants - you can wear brights, prints, stripes, pineapples, lace, a bikini top, a neon construction vest - whatever you want. And when someone tells you it looks great, just smile and say "Oh thank you!"

Oh oh, and the Broncos have another pre-season game today! I got a new Broncos t-shirt last week that I'm dying to wear. Not that I'm a die-hard football fan, but it is neat when your team makes it to the Super Bowl. It is NOT neat when they lose...

Safari...?

Let's call this a safari outfit, shall we?
Animal (print)? Check.
Olive green pants, perfect for traipsing around the jungle? Check.
And vegetation (in the form of a bush, and coming-back-to-life grass? Check.

Bet you didn't know appearing to be on a safari was so easy ;)

Mr. Picks Mondays: Green and Gray

This is the second time in the past month that the Mr. has chosen these green pants for Mr. Picks Mondays. I wonder if he really likes them, or they're just so bright that they stick out in my closet ;)

Either way, here they are, styled very simply with a striped gray sweatshirt & some pretty beat up Converse.

Happy Monday!

Mr. Picks Mondays: Green Pants & Dots

My Mr. chose the bright green pants and had the hardest time choosing a top. I suggested several options: button ups, a sweater, a long sleeve shirt, a chambray and to that, he replied "What is that?" I reached into my closet and grabbed this polka dot one as an example - his eyes lit up and he said "That one!" He's always liked this thrifted number, so I wore it tucked in, and added my dotted & tasseled flats to add extra dimension to the color & pattern scheme.

These pants make me think of spring, since they're such a bright pretty green. And, since spring has sprung (except for the snow we had yesterday...), it's only fitting to break them out this time of year.

Neon & Stripes

I saw these NEON shoes at Kohl's several weeks ago. They were the only pair left, and they were in my size. Aaaand, they were marked down to $8. So, they came home with me, along with the dress shoes for the Mr. that were my original reason to venture to Kohl's. Imagine my surprise when my shoes rang up at not $8, but $4!

Oh, and I had a coupon.

So, for less than the price of a Peppermint Mocha, I got a new pair of shoes. I know this doesn't necessarily jive with my resolutions from last week, but in my defense, the shoes were purchased well before the New Year. And let's be real - who doesn't want neon shoes?

30 for 30: Day 15

Looking at these pictures now, this outfit looks like I tried to be a little "tough" (black boots, black sweater, olive green pants), but then I veered the other direction wearing a scarf with hearts on it.

Pass?

Fail?

There IS something to be said for "juxtaposing" looks/styles/seasons/textures/aesthetics.
Right?? Right.

I wasn't thinking that when I put this outfit together - I really just wanted to wear my green pants (have I mentioned they're incredibly comfortable?) and my new scarf. I've found that lately (and by lately, I mean since the first day of this 30 for 30 challenge) I am really drawn to more neutral colors instead of brights & prints, like I have been in the past.

It feels easier to pair black with black, or taupe, or green, and not worry about matching, but just know that everything will look OK when I pair them together. That said, I just don't think I can give up my love of brights and prints and sequins and twirly skirts and volume and layers and things that me warm & fuzzy (all of the above).

Green & Neutrals-ish

I wore this layered look several weeks ago, before I started my 30 for 30 for the month of November. It's an emerald green 3/4 sleeve top, a down vest, a pretty ombre-esque scarf, that goes from light green/mint to peach and back, skinnies, and my tassled loafer-y flats. I love the color of this shirt, but needed a bit of warmth, so I'm really glad I had a plain white down vest to throw on for some extra warmth. The scarf added another dimension of being monochromatic (check out how many trends I've got going on!) I've had it in my queue for several days now, but remembered I need to share it with you so I can link up with Walking in Memphis High Heels, The Fashion Canvas, and Style Cusp, for their weekly Trend Spin Link Up - this past week was "jewel tones," so I thought this pretty green shirt fit the bill pretty well - dontcha think?
