not a bruise

the moody teenager

Although this outfit is comprised of the colors that make up a bruise (black, purple, and mint counts as blue, right?), I did not intend to actually dress AS a bruise. So, sorry to disappoint if you thought that's where this was headed.

I can't say enough how much I love this black chambray, and these black pants, and, oh, those python print flats. What will I ever do when they've had their last wear and must retire? T'will be a sad day, indeed.

Anyways, I like this outfit. I like all the black, all the purple, all the stripes, the good hair day (few and far between, lately - chronic oversleeping syndrome, ya know), and the handsome (although moody & easily annoyed) bully pictured above.

I know this seems a bit dark for June and almost-but-not-quite-summer, but, the high today was only in the 60s-ish, and it was rainy and gloomy, so totally appropriate.
Me says yes.

gaming in comfort

This outfit was perfect for a game night, which just so happens to be what I wore it for. We had friends over, and they brought lots of delicious food (tapas and desserts, only). We supplied the beverages and the gathering space, and some of the games. The Mr. is really into games, but me, not so much – I’m more into the socializing that goes along with the games, although I play a mean game of Catchphrase.

But a Game Night did occur, and this is what I wore to participate and host. A mint v-neck tee (knotted – it’s what all the fashion bloggers on Pinterest are doing…tres chic, non?), pants (harem pants? parachute pants? MC Hammer pants? joggers? athleisure wear? I don’t know. I DO know that they are very comfortable, and I’ve been told they make my rear look nice. So, continue to wear them, I shall.), and my trusty python print flats, which might be headed to the dumpster soon – they’re not holding up so well, but I can’t expect much more from my sweet $10 shoes. I added the gray statement necklace for some visual interest, and clipped my hair half-up/half-down, a small switch from my usual curls or ponytail.

Have you ever tried these type of pants? All my girlfriends shower me with compliments when I wear them, but the Mr. is not a fan...
maybe I need to add a few more pairs to really show him how versatile they are...

in like a lion

On this, the first Monday of March 2015, I have two outfits to share with you (just like last week). They both feature a sweater, skinnies and flats. Oh oh, and stripes. Always stripes.

It's impossible to discern, but those pants and flats are navy blue, not black. And my necklace, too. But that is a bit easier to see. The stripes in the sweater can lean gray, black or blue, so I chose to pull out the blue on this particular day. And then blue'd up everything else with my pants, shoes and jewelry. Perfect for a long day of meetings.

Cream and green and stripes and python. I tend to shy away from a big chunky scarf and chunky sweater together in the same outfit - it normally feels like too much volume, warmth and potential static for my hair. But this chunky scarf and sweater worked together. I think because I kept the rest of my outfit simple, and you know, it's winter. And winter calls for scarves and sweaters to keep you warm.

30 for 30: day 25 & day 26

day 25

I ventured out to see more cousins and aunt and uncles and mini-cousins for breakfast and new remote-controlled cars, then to lunch with another aunt and cousin (are you sensing that my days are centered around food?).

Then I took my cousin and his pup on a run, which sadly had to get cut short, due to a(n almost!) dead battery. Then we curled up on the couch and watched movies, and I fell asleep. No surprises there…

day 26

I flew back to Colorado early-early this morning, and was treated to breakfast just after the sun came up. Then, some IKEA ooh-ing and aah-ing, boot shopping (they're here! they're here!), ice cream-ing at Little Man Ice Cream, and home for a nap. No cute outfit to share, since I wore an old hat and leggings as pants…

Happy Monday! Hope you had a nice weekend - here's to an equally nice week :)

number 3 of 7

from the Mr:
"I wasn’t sure if I could recall her ever wearing this belt, so I thought it might be fun to pick an outfit based on a belt rather, than the larger pieces. "

The focal point here is the belt. It came with a plaid patchwork mini skirt I got ages ago (still have it…), and it wraps around my hips twice – don’t think I’m super skinny, the belt is SUPER long. So, I put it on “backwards” and looped it enough so that the plaid patchwork showed, once I half-tucked my merlot v-neck in.

This was a tough day– our sweet Cali girl passed. Now every time I wear something pictured here, I think of her even more than I already do – it's very odd to come home to only one wrinkley pup, when you're used to two.

Do you remember what you wore on important/special occasions or specific days?
I definitely do.

take two

Both of my parents read this here blog. And sometimes my Mama will email me about my outfit choices. Found out this past week that she only emails me about the ones she likes...so IF I don't get an email, that means she didn't like it. She thought the last time I wore this dress (here) was rather bland, so here I paired it with a brown necklace (!!!) and snakeprint shoes. How'd I do, Mama? ;)

Spirit Animal

I know croakies don't really match my outfit, but I love those things. they keep your sunglasses RIGHT there. I'm expanding my collection - next up: monogrammed croakies

This outfit is an oldie, as well. I wore it on a day when we had a nice little taste of spring. The sun was out, it was warm, and the wind was delightfully absent. I met the Mr. and a friend for dinner and drinks after work, and we sat on a patio while we enjoyed our vittles.

I don't consider myself outdoors-y, or "one with nature," but there's something about being able to be outside and NOT freeze, when all winter you've been cooped up inside, trying to stay warm. I know some people hate the heat, but I would so much rather be hot than cold. Bring on the heat, the sunshine, the shorts and the sandals.
Summer is my spirit animal ;)

Double the Animal Print, Double the Fun

Double the animal print, double the fun, amiright?? Leopard AND python - it works because they're both accessories, rather than a whole piece of clothing, so they don't compete.

In other news, this shirt (and it's navy blue twin) didn't wash so well. The sleeves have this cute little cuff, and my washing machine kinda tore that up/out/to pieces. So, any tips to make the cuff stay flat without having to iron or sew would be greatly appreciated!

Happy Memorial Day Eve! I'm at home, waiting for the rain to quit so I can go on a long run - training for my next half-marathon in September!

Ooo, scarves and wind

Here are two more simple spring transitional looks. A sweater (or sweatshirt) with a coordinating scarf.  It's frigid and windy here lately - not a fan. Hence, the sweaters and scarves.
Oofta.
I'm ready for the warmer temps - bring on the sunshine!!

Now, to recreate my hair (and make up) from the day with the blue sweater...*sigh*
