Mint, meet Python. Python meet Mint AND 30 for 30: Day 5

I wore this outfit a few weeks ago, back in October. I saw this lady on Instagram wearing mint pants and a leopard top. Now, I DON'T have a leopard top, but I DO have a python print top. So, I substituted the python for the leopard. And was pret-teeeeeee pleased with the results. This is something I would never have thought to pair together.

Where do you get your outfit inspiration? I've started taking screenshots of some outfits on Instagram so I can look back and be re-inspired when I'm picking out my clothes.

Day 5

this is a wool sweater. I was "shivering." you know, cold weather & a wool sweater go together like peas & carrots

I thrifted this sweater a few weeks ago at our local Habitat for Humanity. It's from GAP, and is VERY warm, since it's made of wool. Almost too warm - I was warm (and a bit too itchy) all day, even with a soft tank underneath. I like the fit (the boatneck collar *swoon*) and the color of this sweater, but am hesitant to wear it again until it's REALLY cold, so I don't overheat walking from the copy machine to my desk. Also, I think the person who had this sweater before me folded it in half longways - the middle puckers just a wee bit where the fibers "cross."

Or did you not even notice until I pointed it out? ;)

Polka Dot Overload

dots on dots

I feel obligated to tell you that this was not the outfit I wore when I wore this outfit originally.
Make sense? (I feel a bit like a Dr. Seuss book...)

I wore this to work on a Friday. Fridays are "spirit days," so I actually wore a work t-shirt, instead of this polka dot chambray. I know, it's like I'm lying to you, but hear me out! I didn't think you would be too impressed with a boring work t-shirt, so I swapped out the shirts for this visually interesting combination. However, the sweater, pants & shoes are true to what I actually wore. So, really only a quarter fib. Can we still be friends?

While we're on the subject of substitutes, I'm running the Hot Chocolate 15K tomorrow morning! I was supposed to run it with one friend, but unfortunately she hurt her foot/ankle/leg, and is in a boot while she heals. However, she was kind & gracious enough to allow me to ask another friend (this friend) to do the race with me in her place. So, we'll be running & consuming hot chocolate tomorrow morning. Wish me us luck! ;)

Triple Print Mixing Triple Threat

sorority girl pose - as natural as breathin'

I did a side braid, and then braided that into a bigger french braid

I mixed THREE whole prints in this number! THREE! Granted, 2 of them are polka dots, but they're different sizes, so I say it counts :) My shirt has some white stripes, hard to see, I know, but trust me, they're there. I even got complimented on this outfit by a total stranger, in the bathroom, at the public library. Odd, yes? Flattering? You betcha ;)

This blazer is from Aeropostale. I knew it would be a great addition to my closet as soon as I saw it, since it can go over the top of just about anything (and it's really soft). I'm looking forward to wearing it as a light jacket, or as a blazer.

Now, you'll never hear me say I love cold weather. I am a sun&sand&heat&summer-lover, through and through. That being said, I AM excited to wear this jacket, and some other new things I've acquired, in the cooler months. There's not much like wearing new clothes for the first few times, am I right? And also, being that I live somewhere where it can snow in October just as easily as January or May, or even June, I'm very comfortable layering and thinking of clothes in terms of what I can wear them under or over. So, I am a wee bit excited to layer and wear scarves and add more depth to my outfits without sweating in the heat ;)

Mr. Picks Mondays: Back at it

When it was time to pick out my outfit, my Mr. asked where my 30 for 30 clothes were. I started to tell him, then I realized he was going to choose from them:

Me: "Noooooo! You can't choose one of those! Pick something else - I have a WHOLE closet to choose from!"

Mr: "But you got dressed so much faster with only 30 things to pick from."

Me: "Soooooo. They're all in the laundry. The dirty laundry."

Mr: "No they're not."

Me: "I lost them. All of them."

Mr: "No you didn't..."

He finally came around and chose the pink shirt you saw above, I chose the pants and the sandals. I realized after we took these pictures that I was wearing Old Navy from shoulders to ankles. What can I say? They have a lot of stuff I like, at oober reasonable price points.

Any suggestions for next week to help him get back into the groove of picking out my clothes? Should he just pick out my clothes EVERY DAY this month? There's an idea...

Lunch Lady Chic?

This top - what do we think? I bought it (thrifted) last summer with high expectations - "It'll go so well with shorts or skinnies, as a light flowy blouse." Yet, whenever I wear it, I can't decide if it's cute, or makes me look like a lunch lady. Nothing wrong with being a lunch lady, but I work in an office. And I pack my own lunch (most of the time - unless there's Asian or Mexican on the horizon, then all bets are off), so there's no need for a lunch lady, really.

The fate of this top rests with you: if it's cute/flowy/looks nice/is worth hanging on to, let me know and I'll keep it. If you think it makes me look older & more boxy than my 20-something years, let me know and out it goes. No pressure.

Also, today I'm linking up with Coffee Beans and Bobby Pins and FACE IT Catalog for their Friday's Five Linkup, which is pretty neat.

Hope you have a great weekend! My Mr. and I will be celebrating our first wedding anniversary - I can't believe our big day was (almost) 1 year ago! Also, interested in seeing some pictures from our wedding and and/or some throwbacks from our dating days, beginning in 2005?

Polka Dot Skinnies

Here's those polka dot skinnies again. I just love 'em!

ERMAHGERD! POLKA DOTS! I CAN'T GET ENOUGH!
And look at me, wearing polka dot pants and a striped scarf. I'm a print mixing master.

Not really. But sometimes it's fun to pretend, right?

Let's talk about my shoe choice for a minute. I know they're flip flops. Foam flip flops. From a Walgreen's on the Las Vegas strip over Spring Break. Let me explain: I was in Vegas on Spring Break and my friends and I had gone out. I wore sandals that I had worn plenty of times before, but for whatever reason, a few hours in, my feet were swollen & bloody, with some pretty bad blisters. So, I ran into Walgreen's and bought these bad boys. Surprisingly, they're still around. Enough about how I acquired this spectacular footwear.

My feet got pretty torn up during my race this past weekend, and I'm not able to wear regular shoes just yet. So, please, bear with me while my tootsies heal up and I rock my Vegas flip flops.

Dinner Date

These are my other polka dot pants, and a whole different look to go with them. And this oatmeal-y sweater thing is so warm. Perfect for doing a little pre-dinner shopping with one of my best friends (below).

We've been friends since the 5th grade, and grew up down the street from each other. She came to visit for the evening, so we did a wee bit of shopping downtown, had a delicious dinner, then spent the rest of the night catching up. I stayed up way too late and paid for it today, but it was so worth it to see one of my best friends.

Here's us dancing at my wedding. Don't you love her hat?
She's also the first friend I've told about this here blogging adventure. She's worked retail for 5+ years, and I love to bounce outfit ideas off of her. Even though we've got such different styles, she's full of great ideas & advice, and encourages me to take risks (she even helped me go through my closet a few weeks ago - only a really good friend would do that). She took my outfit pictures tonight and gushed over my outfit. She's pretty excited about me blogging, which in turn makes ME really excited.

That being said, here's to becoming a better blogger, with the support of one of my best friends :)
