in like a lion

On this, the first Monday of March 2015, I have two outfits to share with you (just like last week). They both feature a sweater, skinnies and flats. Oh oh, and stripes. Always stripes.

It's impossible to discern, but those pants and flats are navy blue, not black. And my necklace, too. But that is a bit easier to see. The stripes in the sweater can lean gray, black or blue, so I chose to pull out the blue on this particular day. And then blue'd up everything else with my pants, shoes and jewelry. Perfect for a long day of meetings.

Cream and green and stripes and python. I tend to shy away from a big chunky scarf and chunky sweater together in the same outfit - it normally feels like too much volume, warmth and potential static for my hair. But this chunky scarf and sweater worked together. I think because I kept the rest of my outfit simple, and you know, it's winter. And winter calls for scarves and sweaters to keep you warm.

the sweater saga, part 2 + sweaters 10 & 11

I'm counting this sweatshirt and warm charcoal-colored maxi skirt as sweaters 10 and 11.
Keep reading to hear more about my thoughts on my closet, my sweaters, and minimalism...

part 1 of the Sweater Saga here

My purpose in sharing my "Sweater Saga" on my little blog is not to gloat and show off how many sweaters (or other items of clothing I own), or impress anyone with my precise mathematics of 31 sweaters in 31 days. But in the past year, I've become really intrigued and fascinated with the idea of minimalism.

Before you stop reading, I'm not saying I'm going to become extreme and give away all of my possessions and move into a tiny home, but I have been trying to incorporate some minimalist principles to my life. I've started asking myself: "Do I really need this? Should this even enter my home?" I'm trying to be very thoughtful when it comes to bringing items into my home or adding things to my life - I've discovered that stuff overwhelms me. Easily. Upkeeping it, moving it, cleaning it, maintaining it.

This is something I've got lots of thoughts about, so stay tuned...

Oh, oh, and I linked up this outfit from the other day over here for a weekly style challenge!

jewel tones

All the shades of blue and green. I really like how this came together - I didn’t anticipate liking it so much, but, I did! The color of these pants seems more spring/summer to me (like grass green), but when paired with darker tones, the grassy-ness is toned down significantly. And normally I wouldn’t pair an open knit cardigan with a heavy knitted scarf, but
(1) emerald green just happened to look great with the blue of my shirt and the green of my pants,
and
(2) I needed a warmer scarf.
Ever pair solid jewel tones together? I might try it for New Year's Even, instead of opting for sequins...

down time

Casual, casual, casual today. Sometimes I just don't have any great outfit ideas bursting out of my brain. And that's ok - it's ok (and even really helpful!) to return to the basics of a long-sleeved shirt and jeans. Artists and painters and designers aren't ALWAYS creating something amazing, are they? We all need some down time to get inspired again - on that note, Merry Christmas!
Hope you enjoy the holiday with loved ones!

fall two-fer, number 2

Two-fer number two today, folks.

Apparently I like to wear green this fall. It’s normally not my best, or favorite, color to wear. However, I wore two different green tops in the same week, and ya know, here are some pictures to look at.

Outfit #1

The first, a light green chiffon blouse with burgundy and navy blue flowers. The only thing I don’t LOVE about this top is the elastic waistband - it makes a large horizontal line at the widest part of my hips, and doesn’t stay down very well.

However, I can’t part with it because of the color and the flowers. It’s great for spring/summer, but I’m thinking of layering it under a darker-hued cardigan to switch up my normal winter garb – normally button ups layered under sweaters, sweatshirts, and more sweaters.
Did I mention sweaters?

flats: Walmart

Outfit #2

And this neon green top is pretty fun. It’s a very lightweight knit “sweater", but because of the color, I usually group it with my summer wardrobe. But it tends to not get a lot of wear, because in the summer, it’s hot. Obvi. And I want to wear as little as possible, while still being put-together and covered.

But this year, I’m keeping it with my colder weather line-up. The sleeve length and weight will be great for creating layered looks, and this bright neon green will really add a punch of cheer and BRIGHT to those cold, dark, winter days that are headed our way…ugh.
I’m hanging on to warmer weather as long as possible.
Are you surprised?

fall two-fer, number 1

A two-fer outfit post for ya today, and another one tomorrow. Need to get these bad boys posted so I can start sharing my 30 for 30 outfits - we ARE halfway through October already...

Outfit #1

This ensemble went to work, and lunch at a yummy Mexican place for something smothered in creamy habanero sauce...

chambray: Kohl's
green jeans: from a friend
bag: thrifted
sandals: Walmart

Outfit #2

This outfit is what I wore to spend time with one of my best friend's new babies. My husband met him for the first time that day and the man is obsessed. This little guy has cheeks for days and he wants nothing more than to be bounced or rocked while he's held. Such a cutie.
