still classic

One of my best friends gave me this cardigan over the summer. I was so excited to have a classic argyle cardigan, but I wasn't sure what to wear with it. I was a little stumped, until I decided to think beyond solid black, white or gray. Somehow this striped button-up got put next to the argyle, and a slightly print-mixed outfit was born.

The shirt and the cardigan are both classic pieces on their own, and paired together, they're still classic, but a bit more modern, and slightly cheeky. And instead of defaulting to skinny jeans, I chose mint jeans to brighten this up a bit. And my new black boots were a no-brainer.

time change

Here are the borrowed oxfords again (yesterday, too). One way to expand your "accessories palate" is to borrow items from a friend - for a day, a month, a longer period of time. You get the benefit of being able to wear the item, coupled with the money savings of borrowing, and without the commitment of purchasing an item you might not love just yet. It's a great way to try out a trend before diving in headfirst.

Another way to incorporate accessories into your outfits is with headbands, headscarves, hats, hair clips, and maybe the occasional butterfly clip (kidding! this is NOT 1999). I added this headband, layered a variety of bracelets, and pattern-mixed a floral scarf over a striped tee. Just some subtle upgrades to pull my whole fall look together.

Also, this time change has really messed with my picture taking. Even when I get off work early, it's dark by the time I get home. I'm trying my best to not take pictures inside, but, please bear (bare?) with me until the sun's schedule is more accommodating for office-hours-working-people like me.

wednesday

Here's a preppy, almost nautical look for this Wednesday. A white button-up, navy & white striped skirt, and white sandals. So, Happy Hump Day!

backwards

So, I wore this dress backwards. The last time I wore it on the blog was here, and you can see the neckline is NOT a deep v-neck. But I really wanted to wear this dress for work, and I didn't think an open back would go over well. So I flipped it around and wore a light blue tank underneath. Can't wait to wear it again (without tights!) while it's still warm enough.

And apparently, my Mama's best friend's Mom (tracking?) wore her dress backwards at my Mama's best friend's wedding and she looked great. Nice to know I'm not the only one who thinks things can be wore backwards. Or inside out. Or upside down.

A Smidge Different

I got this new button-up from Aéropostale. It's so lightweight, and it's a button-up (we all know I LOVE a good button-up), but it's just a smidge different from the other ones residing in my closet - the collar is less pronounced. I think this gives the whole shirt a bit of a boho vibe. And while I intend to wear it all summer, I'm sure you'll see me carry it into fall/winter, as well!

Old Friends

Several weeks ago, we had some special company - our good (married) friends from high school. They got married the summer before us, and we've remained good friends through their subsequent move across the country and back, and our putting down roots in Northern Colorado.

They came up to visit us and check out our new house, and we loved having them. They brought their sweet pup, Benni, and we ate delicious food and drank delightful beverages all weekend, and played several rounds of Cards Against Humanity. New favorite game. It's in my Amazon shopping cart, as we speak...!

there was much discussion over my rolled up pants and booties. L and I were on the same boat, but the boys disagreed

me with their pup, Benni. I even got to take him on a run with me - I've forgotten what it's like to have a dog that bounds and just can't get enough exercise...!

Ooo, scarves and wind

Here are two more simple spring transitional looks. A sweater (or sweatshirt) with a coordinating scarf.  It's frigid and windy here lately - not a fan. Hence, the sweaters and scarves.
Oofta.
I'm ready for the warmer temps - bring on the sunshine!!

Now, to recreate my hair (and make up) from the day with the blue sweater...*sigh*

Tall(er) Shoes

Yet ANOTHER two-fer outfit post today - I'm feeling so behind! I can't really show you layered winter looks when it's nice and warm and sunny out, now can I? And that's where the weather is finally headed - skiddleydee!!

Summer is my most MOST favorite season. Mine and the Turbo pup's - he just loves laying in the sun on our patio. We're both sun lovers, while Cali and my Mr. are more snow & winter lovers (Cali bounds through the snow like a rabbit - cutest thing you ever did see). Now, don't misunderstand me, I do like skiing, and a few other things about winter, but summer takes the cake.
It's warm.
The sun stays out longer.
People seem happier.
You don't have to scrape your car.
Or shovel the driveway.
Did I mention it's warm?

So, here are two more colder weather looks that I'm trying to eek out before it's totally inappropriate to wear sweaters. Or even think about sweaters and coats.
